The Modesto Junior College Intercollegiate Speech and Debate team is a co-curricular activity and Communication Studies course sponsored by the Department of Communication Studies and the Arts, Humanities, and Communication Division. Participation is open to any student enrolled at MJC. Students on the team prepare competitive events including platform speeches, oral interpretation, debate, and limited preparation. Students use these events to compete in tournaments at other community colleges and four-year universities. MJC students can join the team by enrolling in COMM 105: Intercollegiate Speech and Debate through Pirates Net. It is a 3 unit course offered every spring and fall semester. Students can take the class up to 4 times. If you'd like more information, check out the Prospective Team Members page for a description of what you can expect on the team.
